They Grow Up So Fast

So it’s almost 2am and I’m here, typing, eyes half-shut but happy. So happy that I don’t want to go to sleep, nope…I want to stay up and rejoice in the fact that my little brother graduated from his High School!!! Alhamdulillah.

He is not a statistic (and never was), Insha’Allah he never will be either, it wasnt easy for either one of us quite frankly. Being raised in the South Bronx comes with a lot of training in the school of hard knocks. I am very proud of him for not following fools, for being a good young man with loads of potential.

There was a teacher that everyone loved from my little brothers school named Mr. Vandyke. He is an English Professor who has the most passion I have ever seen from anyone, you can feel his love for teaching and more importantly the way he cares for these kids is as though each and every one of them was his own.

The paychecks teachers receive are not much, and they will admit this. I feel it is our duty as students and/or family/friends of students to express our gratitude to teachers like Mr. Vandyke who reach out to the next generation in a way that a lot of people can’t or wont.

I pray that my little brother continues to excel in his studies and that he succeeds in anything he sets his sights on (as long as its positive) 🙂

They grow up so fast….in just a few years they go from being fully dependent to striving for independency, we need to continue to help guide them wherever they may be in life.

Treasure the moments you have with your loved ones, be it small or big every moment is beautiful and of value…invest in life, invest in love!

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself
But if your love and must needs have desires,
Let these be your desires:

To melt and be like a running brook
That sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart
And give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer
For the beloved in your heart
And a song of praise upon your lips.
